Jazz Poetry Concert turns Sampsonia Way into a site of world-class performances spanning the disciplines of art, literature and music.

Jazz Poetry 2009 will feature the first-ever performance in Pittsburgh of pianist Geri Allen playing with Trio 3.  These jazz giants played one gig together last year at Birdland in New York, and it was rated "Live Performance of 2008" by All About Jazz.  The musicians will also collaborate with poets from 6 countries.  For one evening Sampsonia is the center of the world for free creative expression.

In case of rain, the concert will be moved to the New Hazlett Theater (directions from Sampsonia Way).

Jazz Poetry is a great concert and a unique event that has begun to attract international attention.  The Concert brings poets and writers to Pittsburgh from many countries. They collaborate and perform with world-class jazz musicians on a closed North Side alley.  The musicians also perform a full concert of avant-garde jazz.  2007’s concert was called “#1 Jazz Concert of the Year” by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.  2008’s concert was reviewed by Bob Hoover in the Post-Gazette as “exciting, stunning, moving, eye-opening…a great evening.”
