Jazz-Poetry Concert turns Sampsonia Way into a site of world-class performances spanning the disciplines of art, literature and music.

Jazz-Poetry 2008 will include musical sets by the Oliver Lake Jazz Quintet and the Flux Quartet. The two groups will also join together - along with 9 poets from all around the world - to perform the world premiere of a new jazz work by Oliver Lake called What is Home? The new piece was commissioned by City of Asylum/Pittsburgh for Jazz-Poetry 2008.

In case of rain, the concert will be moved to the New Hazlett Theater (directions from Sampsonia Way).

Three poets with Pittsburgh roots PLUS three international poets who now live in Pittsburgh PLUS three poets from outside the U.S…. were asked to respond to the question “What is Home?” Oliver Lake wrote jazz settings to their poems and wrapped them in a jazz package all his own.

This massive international collaboration will be performed live on September 13 at 7:30.  Free!
